Virga

I.

I was warned.

My grandmother

looked me in the eyes,

and said

“Stay away,

that girl is full of water”

II.

You pulled me in

like a riptide

and now

I’m drowning in you.

There are storms every day.

III.

Mouth to mouth resuscitation,

you saturate my lungs

and I taste saltwater.

One of the seven seas

was in your throat.

IV.

You turned the sky gray

and the dry land

I tread upon

is wet.

I leave footprints everywhere.

V.

I didn’t realize

how much you’d taken over

until I was gasping

on the ground,

vomiting up

the six oceans

that you’d left in me.

VI.

It doesn’t rain anymore.

There are only wildfires.

Now I kiss a girl

who tastes of embers.
